US/Washington: Sony expands its existing recall for an additional 700 VAIO Laptop Computer Battery Packs for a total of 2,400 units due to fire and burn hazards. CPSC: http://ht.ly/Sm7q308RefC
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this expanded recall involves certain batch/lots of Panasonic lithium-ion Battery Packs installed in 18 models of Sony’s VAIO Series Laptop Computers.
Sony has expanded the number of affected Battery Packs under this recall. The Panasonic Battery Packs were manufactured with the laptop and battery packs were sold separately or installed by Sony as part of a repair.
Panasonic Battery Packs included in this recall have model number VGP-BPS26 and part numbers 1-853-237-11 and 1-853-237-21 printed on the back of the Battery Packs. Recalled model numbers for the Sony VAIO laptop computer are as follows (in alphanumeric order):

According to the CPSC, the Lithium-Ion Battery Packs can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards.
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Battery Packs, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store, outlet or service centre where you purchased it for a full refund.
