The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Smokeless Tobacco are subject to this recall:

  • Cope brand Tobacco – Long Cut Straight:
    This recall applies to lots with no printed code on the bottom of the can, or with codes that begin with the letters “F”, “R”, “K”, or “P”.
  • Copenhagen brand Tobacco:
    This recall applies to lots with no printed code on the bottom of the can, or with codes that begin with the letters “F”, “R”, “K”, or “P”.

    • Extra Long Cut Natural
    • Fine Cut (overseas military only)
    • Fine Cut Plastic Can (only available in Alaska and Hawaii)

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, USSTC has recalled the above Tobacco Products after receiving eight (8) consumer complaints of foreign metal objects, including sharp metal objects, found in select cans. In each case, the object was visible to the consumer and there have been no reports of consumer injury. Complaints have been received from consumers in Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.

If plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tobacco, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Tobacco to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
