US/Washington: Atlas Meat Company recalls an estimated 2,579 pounds of Pork Sausage Products due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Monosodium Glutamate (“MSG”), a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Sausage Products are subject to this recall:
- 0.80 to 1.5-pound vacuum-sealed or butcher-paper wrapped packages containing Atlas Meat Pork Breakfast Sausage
- 0.80 to 1.5-pound vacuum-sealed or butcher-paper wrapped packages containing Atlas Meat Pork Italian Sausage
==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 40306” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were sold directly to consumers at the firm’s Fort Collins, Colorado location and shipped to retail locations in Colorado and Wyoming.
The problem was discovered on January 23, 2017, by US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) inspection personnel during routine verification activities.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sausages and could be allergic to their MSG ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
