US/Silver Spring: Athens Baking Company, Inc. recalls certain batch/lots of Harvest Whole Wheat Bread due to suspected mislabeling and consequential undeclared Whey, a compound made from Milk, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Whole Wheat Bread are subject to this recall:
- Trader Joe’s Harvest Whole Wheat Bread with best-by dates ranging from 01/08/17 through to 01/27/17 and a SKU of 00132.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.
According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Whole Wheat Bread with the affected codes received incorrect packaging, a situation that did not list cultured Whey (i.e., Milk) in the ingredients label.
The recalled Trader Joe’s Harvest Whole Wheat Bread was only sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah. Trader Joe’s stores in the Pacific Northwest, South, Midwest and East Coast are not Affected by this recall.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession these recalled Whole Wheat Bread and could be allergic to its Milk ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
