US/Washington: Ruiz Food Products, Inc. recalls an estimated 23,544 pounds of Beef and Cheese Tortillas due to suspected plastic fragment contamination, a serious health and safety hazard. USDA: http://ht.ly/Kjmk3081uW0
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef and Cheese Tortillas are subject to this recall:
- 4.5-pound cases, each containing 24 pieces, of Ranchero Cooked Beef & Cheese wrapped in a Battered Flour Tortillas with a production date of “16 323” and a product code of “86-390”.
==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.
According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 17523A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to institutions in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.
The problem was discovered after Ruiz Food Products received consumer complaints.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury or adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact their physician, medical clinic or other qualified healthcare provider.
If plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.
==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Beef and Cheese Tortillas, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
