Among the 64 recalls the European Union has announced in this second report of December 2016, the following notification was made:

Louwen Houtbewerking brand Children’s High-Chairs sold with an unknown type/number model designation and apparently distributed without batch numbers, lot numbers or barcodes. The type of hazard presented include injuries due to failure to sell the High-Chair with an appropriate and mandatory child restraint system and consequential fall, fracture and laceration hazards for any child placed in the High-Chair.

In addition, the optional child restraint system (sold separately) reportedly fails to sufficiently narrow the High-Chair’s leg openings, creating a situation in which the High-Chair’s leg openings are too large and allow the child to pass both legs through one or the other opening and slide out. This could lead to chest and/or head entrapment and consequential strangulation and/or asphyxiation hazards.

Finally, the recalled High-Chair is reportedly not sufficiently stable for its stated use and therefore, could easily tip over, causing various serious injuries to the child.

The product, therefore, does not comply with the requirements of the relevant European standard, EN 14988 and has been ordered recalled from end users and withdrawn from the marketplace.
