US/Washington: Hormel Natural Choice Chicken Recall [US]National Steak and Poultry greatly expands its existing recall for ready-to-eat Chicken Products due to adulteration because of possible undercooking resulting in the potential survival of bacterial pathogens, a serious health hazard. The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports this is an expansion of the original recall for certain batch/lots of Chicken Products.

The initial recall encompassed an estimated 17,439 pounds of Chicken. This latest expansion includes an additional 1,976,089 pounds of Chicken Products, for a total of 1,993,528 pounds of product. This release were also updated the company’s distribution details for the recalled Chicken.

The initial recall affected the following Chicken Products:

  • Five (5) pound bags packed two (2) bags per case; product labeled “Distributed by National Steak and Poultry, Owasso, OK Fully Cooked, Diced, Grilled Boneless Chicken Breast Meat with Rib Meat” with lot code 100416 and case code: 70020.
  • Five (5) pound bags packed two (2) bags per case; product labeled “Hormel Natural Choice 100% Natural No Preservatives Fully Cooked Roasted Chicken Breast Strips with Rib Meat Natural Smoke Flavor Added” with lot code 100416 and case code 702113.

The expanded recall affects the following Chicken Products (three Web pages):

According to the USDA, the cases containing the products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-6010T” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These Chicken Products were shipped to food service locations nationwide and should not be in consumers’ possession.

The initial problem was discovered on November 14, 2016, when a food service customer complained to the establishment that the Chicken in his possession appeared to be undercooked. The scope of this recall expansion now includes a variety of ready-to-eat Chicken Products that were produced on various dates from August 20, 2016 through November 30, 2016.

This expanded recall was initiated on November 28, 2016, when another food service customer complained to the establishment that his Chicken Products appeared to be undercooked.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, contamination or adulteration. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer or distributor as applicable for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Chicken Products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
