US/Silver Spring: Phil-am Smoked Mackerel Fish Recall [US]Phil-Am Trading, Inc. recalls certain batch/lots of Phil-Am Smoked Mackerel (Hasa-Hasa) due to suspected Clostridium botulinum contamination, a serious health hazard. FDA: http://ht.ly/tXrs306PZ3n

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Smoked Fish are subject to this recall:

  • Phil-Am Smoked Mackerel (Hasa-Hasa) sold in 200 gram (7.05 ounce) clear flexible plastic pouches topped by a predominantly red tag affixed to the top seal that has the product’s information with a UPC of 814487015147. The recalled Mackerel Fish was distributed to stores from February to November 2016.

According to the FDA, laboratory and sampling analysis from the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets (“NYSDAM”) has revealed that the Smoked Mackerel is uneviscerated and therefore subject to Clostridium botulinum contamination.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Smoked Mackerel, please do not consume it directly nor use it as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Fish to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
