Among the 47 recalls the European Union has announced in this first report of December 2016, the following notification was made:

Aux Temps des Savons brand Decorative Soap with Plastic Duck sold with an unknown type/number model designation and an unknown batch number or barcode. The type of problems presented include injuries due to chemical contamination and choking, both serious health and safety hazards.

Specifically, the plastic material of the recalled Duck contains di-(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate (“DEHP”), measured value 26% by weight. This Phthalate may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to their reproductive systems. Moreover, the Duck is small enough to be put in the mouth by children posing a choking rink.

According to the REACH Regulation, DEHP, DBP and BBP Phthalates are prohibited in all toys and childcare articles. The product does not comply with the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.

The product, therefore, does not comply with EU’s REACH Regulation and therefore a ban has been placed on its sales and/or marketing within the European Community. Further, the product has been ordered recalled from consumers and withdrawn from the marketplace.
