US/Silver Spring: Trader Joe's Hummus Recall [US]Bakkavor Foods USA, Inc. recalls certain batch/lots of Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus and Trader Joe’s White Bean & Basil Hummus due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination, a serious health hazard. FDA: http://ht.ly/TLOZ306J1X7

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Hummus are subject to this recall:

  • Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus, sold in 16-ounce plastic tubs with an SKU of 90642 and use-by date codes up to and including 12/15/2016
  • Trader Joe’s White Bean & Basil Hummus, sold in 16-ounce plastic tubs with an SKU of 91107 and use-by date codes up to and including 12/15/2016

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the recalled Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus and Trader Joe’s White Bean & Basil Hummus were distributed only to Trader Joe’s stores in AZ, CA, ID, NM, NV, OR, UT and WA.

The recalled Hummus came in 16-ounce plastic tubs with their respective SKU numbers printed on the top labels and use-by date codes stamped on the bottom of the tubs, along with the plant identification code “C”. Hummus products with plant identification code “J” were produced in a different facility and are not affected by this recall. In addition, Trader Joe’s Mediterranean Hummus Snack Pack with Pita Chips (SKU 97136) is also not part of this recall.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Hummus, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Hummus to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
