US/Washington: Piccadilly Fine Foods recalls an estimated 144 pounds of Beef Shepherd’s Pie Products due to suspected mislabelling and consequential undeclared anchovy fish, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef Shepherd’s Pies are subject to this recall:

  • Four (4) cases of 8-ounce, plastic sealed packages containing Beef Shepherd’s Pie with Vegetables, made with Beef Chuck Steak,” with a case and lot code of “295-16 and a package date of 10/21/2016.
  • Eight (8) cases of 8-ounce, plastic sealed packages containing Beef Shepherd’s Pie with Vegetables, made with Beef Chuck Steak, with a case and lot code of “274-16” and a package date of 9/30/2016.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Beef Shepherd’s Pie can be found on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, the Beef Shepherd’s Pie subject to recall bear the establishment number designation of “EST. 9216” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in California.

The problem was discovered by US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) inspection personnel during normal inspection activities on November 10, 2016. Products produced prior to September 29, 2016 used a different brand of Worcestershire sauce that did not contain anchovies as an ingredient.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession these recalled Beef Shepherd’s Pies and could be allergic to their Fish ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.
