The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ground Meat is subject to this recall:

  • IGA brand Extra Lean Ground Beef, variable package sizes; product codes: best before: October 16, 2016 and October 17, 2016; UPC: starting with 200117
  • IGA brand Lean Ground Beef, variable package sizes; product codes: best before: October 16, 2016 and October 17, 2016; UPC: starting with 200089
  • IGA brand Family Pack Lean Ground Beef, variable package sizes; product codes: best before: October 16, 2016 and October 17, 2016; UPC: starting with 200115
  • IGA brand Lean Ground Pork, variable package sizes; product codes: best before: October 16, 2016 and October 17, 2016; UPC: starting with 200091
  • IGA brand Seasoned Meatballs, variable package sizes; product codes: best before: October 16, 2016 and October 17, 2016; UPC: starting with 200727

According to the CFIA, IGA Port McNeill has recalled certain batch/lots of Ground Meats and Meat Products listed above due to the possible presence of metal shavings. You should not consume the recalled products listed above but instead return them to the point of purchase for a refund.

The recalled Meat have been sold at the IGA store located at 1705 Campbell Way, Port McNeill, British Colombia.

If plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ground Meats and Meat Products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
