US/Washington: Chicharrones J&J recalls an estimated 2,064 pounds of Pork Lard due to suspected misbranding and consequential undeclared Sodium Nitrite, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Pork Lard are subject to this recall:

• 1-pound, 2-pound and 3-pound plastic tubs of Chicharrones J&J Rendered Animal Fat, produced on various dates from June 16, 2016 through October 12, 2016.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 31638” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to various retail locations in California. The problem was discovered on October 12, 2016 by a FSIS consumer safety during label verification activities.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession these recalled Pork Lard and could be allergic to their Sodium Nitrite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.
