US/Silver Spring: Meijer Potato Chip Recall [US]Shearer’s Foods, LLC recalls an estimated 280 cases of Meijer brand No Salt Added Kettle Cooked Potato Chips due to mislabelling and consequential undeclared milk and soy, both known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Potato Chips are subject to this recall:

  • Meijer brand No Salt Added Kettle Cooked Potato Chips, sold in 8.5-ounce bags, with an expiration date code of OCT 31 2016UPC and a UPC of 719283595577

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after a consumer discovered Salt & Pepper Potato Chips (which contain soy and milk) in a package labeled as No Salt Added Potato Chips (which do not list the presence of these allergens). Subsequent investigation revealed Shearer’s Foods inadvertently and incorrectly packaged an estimated 280 cases of the Salt and Pepper Potato Chips into No Salt Added variety Potato Chip wrappers.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Potato Chips and could be allergic to their Milk and/or Soy ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure pets and small children can’t access the suspect food.
