Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Sterndrive Boat Engines are subject to this recall:

  • Mercury Diesel Sterndrive Boat Engines, equipped with digital throttle and shift (“DTS”) mechanism.

According to the ACCC, the recalled Boat Engines are fitted with either a digital throttle and shift (“DTS”) or a mechanical throttle and shift. This recall only affects Engines that are fitted with a DTS. For these products, a failure of either the trim, pitot, steering or paddle wheel sensor could result in a reduction of sensor voltage and cause a misinterpretation of the DTS shift actuator’s position.

The defect may result in the Engine’s shift actuator moving into forward gear during the engine start process, even though the electronic remote control handle is in the neutral position. If this occurs, the drive unit will remain in the forward gear until the failed sensor is disconnected, posing both crash and consequential injury hazards .

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sterndrive Boat Engines, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact your nearest authorized Mercury dealer to arrange for the Engine to be physically inspected and confirm whether it has a DTS or a mechanical throttle and shift mechanism. If your Boat’s Engine has a DTS mechanism, the dealer will replace it with a redesigned vessel sensor harness to avoid the hazards outlined above..
