Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) are supporting the State of Hawaii Health Department in an investigation of a large, multi-patient Hepatitis A-related outbreak of illnesses linked to Sea Port Products supplied Raw Scallops.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and wholesale presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Raw Scallops is pictured on the Web site above.

According to the Hawaii Department of Health (“DOH”), 206 people have now been confirmed to have become ill with Hepatitis A. The illnesses started on dates ranging from on or about June 12, 2016 to on or about August 9, 2016. All cases have been in adults and 51 were serious enough to have required hospitalization.

The FDA’s traceback investigation involved working with Hawaii DOH to trace the path of food eaten by patients made ill back to a common source. The traceback investigation determined that Sea Port Products Corp imported the Raw Scallops that were later supplied to certain Genki Sushi locations in Hawaii, where ill people reported eating.

On August 17, 2016, FDA laboratory analysis of two Raw Scallops samples, collected on August 11, 2016, were confirmed positive for Hepatitis A. These samples were imported by Sea Port Products Corp and were produced on November 23, 2015 and November 24, 2015.

The FDA, CDC and state partners immediately informed Sea Port Products Corp that epidemiological, laboratory and traceback information indicates its Raw Scallops are the likely source of illnesses. On August 18, 2016, Sea Port Products Corp initiated a recall of three (3) lots of frozen Bay Scallops produced on November 23, 2015 and November 24, 2015.

Affected lot numbers are 5885, 5886 and 5887. The products were distributed to California, Hawaii and Nevada. According to Sea Port Products Corp, the recalled Raw Scallops are not intended for retail sale but rather through institutional (i.e., restaurants and cafeteria use) and through other channels.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Raw Scallops, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Restaurants and other institutional users of these Raw Scallops should not prepare and/or serve the seafood to diners. Instead, return the seafood to the store or distributor where you purchased it for a full refund.
