Canada/Ottawa: Nirav brand Pickle Spice Recall Update [Canada]Indian Groceries and Spices updates its existing recall for certain batch/lots of Nirav brand Sweet Mango Pickle Spice and Nirav brand Sweet Lemon Pickle Spice due to undeclared mustard, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Pickled Indian Spices are subject to this recall:

  • Nirav brand Sweet Mango Pickle, sold in 2.25-pound jars; product codes: all codes where mustard is not declared; UPC: 0 24433 00912 6
  • Nirav brand Sweet Lemon Pickle, sold in 2.25-pound jars; product codes: all codes where mustard is not declared; UPC: 0 24433 00916 4

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional product variations of the recalled Pickled Indian Spices are pictured on the Web site above. This is an update to an earlier notification in which distribution of these food products was unknown. It is now thought distribution was throughout Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, possibly Canada National and Saskatchewan.

According to the CFIA, Indian Groceries and Spices has recalled certain batch/lots of Nirav brand Sweet Mango Pickle and Nirav brand Sweet Lemon Pickle from the marketplace because they contain mustard, an ingredient not declared on the product label. People with an allergy to mustard should not consume the recalled products listed above.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession these recalled Pickled Indian Spices and could be allergic to their Mustard ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
