Pilgrim’s Pride Chicken Recall Expands [US]

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Chicken Products are subject to this recall expansion:

  • 25-pound boxes containing three (3) – 8.33-pound clear bags in a box of Pierce Chicken/ Wing Zings Fully Cooked Hot and Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings 1st and 2nd Sections with use by/sell by date of 09/15/2016 and a packaging date of 09/15/2015;
  • 15-pound boxes containing two (2) – 7.5 clear bags in a box of Pierce Chicken/ Wing Zings Fully Cooked Hot and Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings with a use by/sell by date of 07/11/2016 and a packaging date of 07/11/2015;
  • 15-pound boxes containing two (2) – 7.5-pound clear bags in a box of Pierce Chicken/ Wing Zings Fully Cooked Hot And Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings with a use by/sell by date of 09/16/2016 and a packaging date of 9/16/2015;
  • 10-pound boxes containing two (2) – 5-pound clear bags in a box of Sweet Georgia Brand Fully Cooked Hot and Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings with a use by/sell by date of 07/11/2016 and a packaging date of 07/11/2015;
  • 10-pound boxes containing two (2) – 5-pound clear bags in a box of Sweet Georgia Brand Fully Cooked Hot and Spicy Breaded Chicken Wings 1st and 2nd Sections with a use by/sell by date of 09/15/2016 and a packaging date of 09/15/2015;
  • 25-pound boxes containing three (3) – 8.33-pound clear bags in a box of Pierce Chicken/ Wing Zings Fully Cooked Hot and Spicy Chicken Wings 1st and 2nd Sections with use by/sell by date of 09/15/2016 and a packaging date of 09/15/2015.

According to the USDA, the scope of this recall expansion now includes a variety of Chicken Products that may be contaminated with extraneous metal materials. The Chicken Products were produced on 07/11/2015, 09/15/2015 and 09/16/2015. This notification is being reissued as the third expansion of the April 7, 2016 recall to include additional products and production dates.

If plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Chicken, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Please Note: This release is being reissued as the third expansion of the April 7, 2016, recall to include additional products and production dates. The first notification (027-2016) published by the USDA on or about April 7, 2016, recalled an estimated 40,780 pounds of Fully Cooked Chicken Nugget Products.

The recall expansion on April 26, 2016 recalled an additional 4,524,980 pounds of Fully Cooked Chicken Products. The second expansion on May 6, 2016 recalled an additional 608,764 pounds of Chicken. This third recall expansion recalls an additional 376,380 pounds of Chicken Products. As stated above, the total amount of recalled Chicken Product from April 7, 2016 to May 13, 2016 current stands at 5,550,904 pounds.
