US/Silver Spring: Giant Eagle Bulk Sunflower Seed Recall [US/IN]Giant Eagle recalls certain batch/lots of Bulk Sunflower Seeds, sold at its Carmel Market District, Indiana area Market District stores due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination, a serious health hazard. The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Bulk Sunflower Seeds are subject to this recall:

  • Bulk Sunflower Seeds, sold in the bulk foods sections of Giant Eagle’s Carmel Market District locations with a PLU of 65167. The recalled Sunflower Seeds were available for purchase both loose within the bulk bin between February 15, 2016 and May 3, 2016 and in pre-weighed, pre-packaged plastic tub containers with sell-by dates of August 1, 2016 through August 19, 2016

According to the FDA, Giant Eagle supplier SunOpta has informed the company that the Sunflower Seeds sold in the bulk sections of its Carmel Market District stores may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria that causes Listeria.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Bulk Sunflower Seeds, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
