US/Silver Spring: Giant Eagle Japanese Cod Fillet Recall [US]Giant Eagle recalls an estimated 420 packages of Japanese Hand Breaded Cod Fillets due to undeclared soy, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Breaded Cod Fillets are subject to this recall:

  • Giant Eagle brand Japanese Breaded Cod Fillets, prepared and sold from the chain’s Seafood Department inside Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets through February 4, 2016 with a UPC beginning with “268106”.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

According to the FDA, Giant Eagle became aware of the issue during ongoing ingredient declaration monitoring. The product label for the Cod Fillets, which contain soy, omitted soy as an allergen.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Breaded Cod Fillets and could be allergic to their soy ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them.
