Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Pizzas are subject to this recall:

  • Whole Foods Markets, Pepperoni Pizza, 8” size, sold in 10-ounce vacuum-sealed packages
  • Whole Foods Markets, Pepperoni Pizza, 12” size, sold in 19-ounce vacuum-sealed packages

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional variations of the recalled Pepperoni Pizzas are pictured on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, the recalled Pizzas bear the establishment number “EST. 20234” inside the USDA mark of inspection and sell-by dates of January 12, 2015 through January 30, 2016 printed on the packaging. The Pizzas were shipped for wholesale and retail sale in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.

The problem was discovered by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) during a label review at the establishment and occurred as a result of a change in ingredient suppliers.

Although the Pizzas are labeled as containing “uncured beef pepperoni”, they actually contain uncured pork pepperoni, an ingredient not declared on the product label. Some individuals have a sensitivity or intolerance to pork. Others may want to avoid pork for religious or health reasons.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Pizzas and could be allergic to their pork ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis, are unsure of your allergy status or other health or religious reasons, please do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
