Wessex Mill Flour Recall [UK]

UK FSA RecallUK/Basildon: UK CTSI LogoClarks (Wantage) recalls certain Wessex Mill White Spelt Bread Flour and Wessex Mill Wholemeal Spelt Bread Flour due to possible ingredient mislabeling and undeclared gluten, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The UK Chartered Trading Standards Institute (“CTSI”) reports the following Bread Flour are subject to this recall:

  • Wessex Mill White Spelt Bread Flour; 1.5 kilogram package with a best-before date end: 1 September 2016
  • Wessex Mill Wholemeal Spelt Bread Flour; 1.5 kilogram package with a best-before date end: 2 September 2016

According to the CTSI, the recalled Bread Flour is labelled as ‘low gluten’ but in fact contain high levels of gluten. There is no set level for ‘low gluten’ in the UK regulations. Consequently, the both Bread Flours are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to wheat/spelt or an intolerance to gluten.
