Orange TKO All Purpose Cleaner Recall [Canada]


Canada CFIA RecallCanada/Ottawa: Health Canada orders Orange TKO Industries (International) Inc. to recall and stop all sales of “Orange TKO Super Concentrated All Purpose Cleaner” due to high levels of D-limonene, failure to meet the labelling and child-resistant packaging requirements for consumer chemical products that are established in regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (“CCPSA”) possibly leading to pulmonary injury, chemical pneumonia and death hazards. Additional information:
Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this product contains a level of D-limonene that can pose a danger to human health, especially to children, if aspiration occurs.

D-limonene is extracted from citrus fruit (such as orange peel), and is commonly used as an ingredient in cleaners and other household chemical products to provide a citrus-like smell. Aspiration occurs when the product is coughed up or vomited after being ingested. This coughing/vomiting causes small particles of the product to travel into the lungs and may result in severe health effects including pulmonary injury, chemical pneumonia or death.

The specific products affected by this recall are as follows:

  • All products manufactured, imported, advertised or sold as “Orange TKO Super Concentrated All Purpose Cleaner”

According to Health Canada, this product does not meet the labelling and child-resistant packaging requirements for consumer chemical products that are established in regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (“CCPSA”). Consequently, Health Canada has ordered Orange TKO Industries (International) Inc. to recall and stop selling the non-compliant products in Canada.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Cleaning Products, please do not use them or handle them. Instead, immediately dispose of the recalled product in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements taking care to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (“PPE”) such as a mask, eye ware and gloves.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect your personal safety, the local drinking water supply and the ecosystem.
