US/Silver Spring: Maya Cashew Split Snack Recall [US]Maya Overseas Foods recalls approximately 8000 pounds of Cashew Split Snacks due to possible Salmonella contamination, a serious health hazard. FDA:

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Cashew Nuts are subject to this recall:

  • Maya brand Cashew Split was sold un-coded in 7 ounce containers with a UPC of 020843230389
  • Maya brand Cashew Split was sold un-coded in 14 ounce containers with a UPC of 020843230716
  • Maya brand Cashew Split was sold un-coded in 28 ounce containers with a UPC of 020843230327
  • Maya brand Cashew Split was sold un-coded in 5 pound containers with a UPC of 020843230303
  • The Cashew Split was also sold in bulk 50 pound tins with no UPC assigned

According to the FDA, the recall was as the result of routine FDA sampling at the company’s supplier that revealed the bulk Cashew Split contained the bacteria. The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the supplier continue their investigation as to what caused the problem.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Cashew Nuts, please do not consume them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
