Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following bags of Lump Charcoal are subject to this recall:

  • Carbon Especial brand Lump Charcoal, sold in 2.5 kg brown colored bags with black brand lettering and markings.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

According to Health Canada, its sampling and evaluation project has found this product does not meet the warning label requirements under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (“CCPSA”). The CCPSA requires warning labels be in both French and English.

Charcoal produces carbon monoxide. This can be toxic if it is burned inside or in an area without proper ventilation. Warning labels help to protect the public by telling them about this hazard.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Lump Charcoal, please do not use it. Instead, kindly Pay Me Foods at 1-204-326-1104 for a refund.
