The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Phoebe Mote Blanco White Corn Products are subject to this recall:

  • Phoebe Mote Blanco White Corn Semoule De Mais Blanc, peso neto 396.9 gram/net weight 14 ounce packages. This product was sold in Elmhurst NY, Falls Church VA, Forestville MA, Maspeth NY, Quebec CA, Roxbury MA, Saint Leonard CA, Secaucus NJ, Silver Springs MD, and Washington DC and Westbury NY.
  • Phoebe Mote Pelado Blanco, peso neto 1530 gram/net weight 54 ounce packages. This product was sold in Elmhurst NY, Falls Church VA, Forestville MA, Secaucus NJ, Washington DC and Westbury NY
  • Phoebe Mote Blanco Peeled White Corn, peso neto 1814 gram package, net weight 4 pound package. This product was sold in Falls Church VA, Forestville MA, Secaucus NJ, Westbury NY
  • Phoebe Mote Pelado Blanco, 50 pound bag, This product was sold in Forestville MA, Mississauga ON CA, Norwalk CN, Quebec CA, Saint Leonard QC CA, Secaucus NJ, St. Catherines ON CA, Sun Valley CA and Westbury NY.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of Phoebe Mote Blanco White Corn Semoule De Mais Blanc, peso neto 396.9 gram/net weight 14 ounce packages that did not declare sulfites on the label.

The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
