Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef Tongue is subject to this recall:

  • Larry’s Custom Meats Inc. Beef Tongue, sold in 1-1/2 pound packages and bearing the establishment number “EST. 40359” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items produced were shipped to retail locations in New York and Pennsylvania.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s labeling, design and retail presentation.

According to the USDA, the problem was discovered during in-plant verification activities. Lingual tonsil, located at the back of the base of the Tongue, is a small mound of lymphatic tissue which is considered Specified Risk Materials (“SRMs”) and must be removed from cattle in accordance with FSIS regulations.

SRMs are tissues that may contain the infective agent in cattle infected with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (“BSE”), as well as materials that are closely associated with these potentially infective tissues. Therefore, FSIS prohibits SRMs from use as human food to minimize potential human exposure to the BSE agent.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Beef Tongue, please do not use or consume it. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

If you have any questions about this recall notification, please contact Mr. Lawrence Althis at the company at 1-607-293-7927.
