The UK Chartered Trading Standards Institute (“CTSI”) reports the following Spice is subject to this recall:

  • Yekta Foods Sommak, sold in 150 gram plastic bags with a best-before end date of 30 August 2016 and a batch number of 25152. The country of origin is marked as Iran.

According to the CTSI, the Sommak Spice was recalled because it contains two illegal dyes known as “Orange II” and “Sudan”. Neither of these red-coloured dyes is approved for human consumption within the United Kingdom. Rather, they are used for colouring solvents, oils, waxes, petrol and shoe and floor polishes.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Sommak Spice, please do not consume it. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
