US/Washington: Soujouk Dried Beef Sausage Recall [US]Ohanyan’s Bastirma & Soujouk recalls approximately 159,291 pounds of Beef Sausages due to undeclared soy lecithin, a known allergen and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef Sausages are subject to this recall:

  • 1-pound Cryovac packages of Soujouk Dried Beef Sausage Hot & Spicy with plant EST. 5867-A.
  • 1-pound Cryovac packages of Soujouk Dried Beef Sausage Mild with plant EST. 5867-A.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional brands and/or designs and/or variations of the recalled foods are pictured on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, these items were produced on various dates from April 30, 2014, through April 30, 2015. The products bear the establishment number “EST. 5867-A” inside the USDA mark of inspection and have the sell-by date printed on the product label. These items were shipped to distributors, retailers and consumers nationwide.

The problem was discovered when a US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) inspector was reviewing ingredients on their products and noticed that the establishment applied canola oil spray, a release agent, on the interior of their tubs.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession these recalled Beef Sausages and could be allergic to their soy ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
