The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Building Products are subject to this recall:

  • Fireguard, a material used in carpentry and interior fit-out in the same way as standard MDF. Fireguard is a specialty medium density fibreboard available in two colours (Standard Red, sold in sheet thicknesses of 12, 16 and 18mm and, Black, sold in sheet thicknesses of 16 and 18mm) and a standard 2400mm by 1200mm sheet size. Fireguard is manufactured to achieve a Group 1 fire retardant rating in accordance with AS/NZS 3837.

The recalled Fireguard does not have a unique identifying feature. Laminex is, however, aware that only one (1) shipment is affected and is able to contact all affected customers.

According to the ACCC, the product was designed to achieve the “Group 1” rating in accordance with AS/NZS 3837 regulation. Laminex has identified one (1) shipment of product that failed to meet these product specifications.

The affected product does not offer the expected fire resistance associated with product that achieves a “Group 1” rating. Consequently, in the case of fire, the affected product may not offer the expected level of fire resistance, posing a potential fire hazard and a risk of further property damage.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Fireguard, please do not use it to build or renovate a structure. Instead, Laminex is in the process of contacting all end-users either directly or, where customers prefer to do so, through the identified customers.

Where end-users have Fireguard installed in circumstances where fire resistance is relevant, then they will be afforded the option of having that material replaced by Laminex with a suitable fire resistant alternative (pending availability)
