Mirka Orbital Sander Recall [US & Canada]

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves 5-inch and 6-inch Mirka Compact Electric Random Orbital Sanders (“CEROS”).

The Sanders are yellow and black with the “Mirka” logo on the front. A speed control lever is located on the top of the Sanders and a vacuum hose connector is located at the rear of the Sander. The recalled Sanders came with a carrying case, a 12-foot power cord, a DC transformer, a wrench, a multi-hole backup pad and assorted abrasives.

The 5-inch Sander is model CEROS 550. The 6-inch Sander is model CEROS 650. Model names are on a white sticker on the back of the Sander housing beneath the hand grip. Serial numbers are engraved on the side of the sander housing just above the dust shroud. Sanders with serial numbers in the following ranges are being recalled:

• CEROS 550; serial number range: 347228672001  to  347228672048
• CEROS 550; serial number range: 349428672001  to  349428672048
• CEROS 550; serial number range: 403228672001  to  403228672048
• CEROS 550; serial number range: 404328672001  to  404328672048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 344228673001  to  344228673048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 344328673001  to  344328673048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 346128673001  to  346128673048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 347128673001  to  347128673048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 403328673001  to  403328673048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 404228673001  to  404228673048
• CEROS 650; serial number range: 404328673001  to  404328673048

According to the CPSC, he sander can short circuit, posing a fire hazard.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Health Canada (“HCSC”). Mirka Abrasives has received three reports of electrical shorting incidents that included the Sander sparking and smoking. No injuries or property damage have been reported. Customers should immediately stop using the recalled Sander, unplug it and contact Mirka Abrasives for a free replacement.
