Summer Infant Battery Recall Expands [US]

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports the recall involves rechargeable batteries in Summer Infant handheld color Video Monitors.

The rechargeable Batteries are about 1-1/2″ tall by 2-1/4″ wide and are 1/4″ thick, black, and are marked with the letters, “TCL” on the lower right corner of the Battery. The Video Monitors are sold with a matching Camera and A/C adaptors. Batteries will have one of these letter and number combinations in the beginning of the serial number on the back of the battery:

  • JNN-S150A
  • JNN-S150B
  • JNN-S150C
  • JNS150-BA
  • JNS150-BB
  • JNS150-BC
  • JNS150A

The recalled Batteries were sold with the following Monitors:

  • Baby Touch Plus; model number: 28520
  • Baby Touch; model numbers: 02000, 02000Z
  • Best View Choice; model number: 28460
  • Best View; model numbers: 28030, 28030Z, 28035, 28280Z
  • Complete Coverage; model number: 28040
  • Dual Coverage; model number: 28510
  • MultiView; model number: 28490
  • Peek Plus; model number: 02230
  • Private Label Baby Sight; model numbers: 3927000H11/A, 3927003H12
  • Safe Sight; model number: 28530
  • Secure Sight; model numbers: 02040, 02040Z
  • Sleek & Secure; model number: 28270
  • Slim & Secure Plus Power Pack; model number: 28590
  • Slim & Secure Plus; model number: 28450
  • Slim & Secure; model numbers: 02800, 02805

According to the CPSC, the Battery in the handheld Video Monitor can overheat and rupture, posing a burn hazard to consumers. Summer Infant has received 22 reports of overheated and ruptured Batteries, including incidents of smoke and minor property damage.

Consumers should remove the recalled Battery from the Video Monitor and contact Summer Infant for a replacement battery. The Video Monitor can continue to be used on AC/mains power using the supplied power cord.
