Canadian Blood Services has recalled 1,500 units of Blood for which a standard test for Cytomegalovirus was not performed according to specifications during the period from July 30 to Aug 2, 2013.

About Cytomegalovirus:
Cytomegalovirus is a common community acquired infection that lies dormant in white blood cells and is harmless for most people. Only some patients with special needs require Blood that is “CMV negative”. These patients include low birth-weight infants and some immune-compromised patients, including those who have undergone bone marrow and organ transplant procedures.
