Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves some Boy’s Long Sleeve Hooded Jackets, sizes 2T to XL. The word “Mecca” is embroidered on the front chest of the garment and on the interior label sewn into the neck of the jacket. There are elastic drawstrings around the neck and waist. The style number can be found on a label sewn into the jacket one inch above the bottom seam on the left side.

The following Jackets are subject to this recall:

  • Black, Coffee Bean, Keg Green, Khaki, Deep Sea Navy; MK310702; Size: S-XL2279 - BoysHooded Jacket
  • Black, Coffee Bean, Keg Green, Khaki, Deep Sea Navy; MLK310702; Size: S-XL

According to the CPSC, the recalled Jackets have drawstrings with toggles inside the bottom hem and neck area, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines about drawstrings in children’s upper outerwear. In 1997, those guidelines were incorporated into a voluntary standard. Then in July 2011, based on the guidelines and voluntary standard, CPSC issued a federal regulation.

About Listeriosis (Listeria poisoning):
Listeriosis is a serious infection that can develop after eating food contaminated by bacteria, typically a strain called Listeria monocytogenes. In most people, Listeriosis is mild and causes flu-like symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

In more rare cases and especially in those with compromised immune systems (including pregnant women), the infection can spread to other parts of the body and cause serious complications, such as meningitis (infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord) or foetal death.

If you suspect your food is contaminated, do not eat it. Contact the retailer for a refund or replacement. Wash your hands, contaminated preparation surfaces, cutlery and serving dishes thoroughly with hot soapy water and dry. Contact your MD immediately if you experience Listeriosis symptoms.
