The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports this recall pertains to some Pearl Pendants used with VitalCall’s Erica emergency call devices provided to VitalCall customers between 1 January 2012 and 15 May 2013. The recalled Pendant is made of plastic with a push button in its centre and can be hung from a necklace. It is worn in association with the VitalCall Erica base unit and used to call for help during an emergency situation.

According to the ACCC, in some circumstances when certain types of chemicals come into contact with the Pearl Pendant it may result in cracks appearing on the Pendant, which has the potential to compromise its functionality, including waterproofing. The chemicals may include but are not limited to: perfumes, fatty acids, mosquito repellent, hair conditioners, ammonia spray and tea tree oil. If the Pendant develops cracks, it may compromise its waterproofing and cause it fail in an emergency.
