Sylvania, Definity Lightbulb Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Lighting Science Group recalls some Sylvania, Definity Lightbulbs due to overheating, fire hazards. HCSC:

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves 120-volt LED Lightbulbs that were sold as 8 watt bulbs (equivalent to ~50 watts) and marketed under the following two brand names in Canada:

  • Definity (sold by Lighting Science Group)
  • Sylvania (sold by Osram Sylvania Inc.)

The recalled Lightbulbs have model numbers A19, G25 and R20/PAR20 which can be found on the packaging. The model numbers are also found on the light coloured circular neck above the base of the bulb where the date code is also printed.

According to HCSC, the affected bulbs bear manufacturing date codes (imprinted on the base of the bulb) indicating dates of manufacture between October 4, 2010 and March 13, 2011 (the “Affected Manufacturing Period”), in the following sequential order: L4010, L4110, L4210, L4310, L4410, L4510, L4610, L4710, L4810, L4910, L5010, L5110, L5210, L5310, L0111, L0211, L0311, L0411, L0511, L0611, L0711, L0811, L0911, L1011 and L1111.

Lighting Science Group is aware of three (3) incidents of product failures in Canada and 68 incidents of product failures in the United States. The three Canadian failures and eight of the US failures were accompanied by visible smoke or fire. The incidents included damage to light sockets, melted fixtures, burned rugs/carpet/ floors, damage to a circuit and to a lamp.

Vertigo Deluxe Lighter Recall [Canada]

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports three models of reusable Vertigo brand Lighters are subject to this recall. Specifically, the three models include the following:1881 - VertigoDeluxeLighters

  1. Vertigo – Jolt;
  2. Vertigo – Cyclone; and
  3. Vertigo – Bullet.

According to the HCSC, the recalled Lighters pose the following hazards:

  • The lighters may exceed the allowable flame heights during ignition;
  • The lighters may continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released; and
  • The lighters may leak fuel.
