About Salmonella Poisoning in Animals:
Salmonellosis (Salmonella poisoning) is a very common type of food poisoning caused by the Salmonella bacterium. According to the Health Canada, animals with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some animals will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

It is important to note that infected but otherwise healthy looking animals can be Salmonellosis carriers and infect other animals or humans through various routes including oral-manual, oral-oral and oral-fecal. Always wash your hands thoroughly after feeding, petting or performing other activities with animals, especially those relating to waste elimination and disposal of fecal matter.

About Listeria Poisoning:
The bacteria that cause Listeriosis (Listeria poisoning) most often produce a gastrointestinal illness that can be quite serious or even fatal. Listeriosis in pregnancy, for example, may cause a miscarriage or fetal death. In other cases, people can develop Septicemia (a serious blood infection) or Meningitis (an inflammation of the covering of the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges).
